PROMOTION TO THIS RANK ENTITLES A STUDENT BE ADDRESSED AS A MASTER GRADE AND THEREFORE CARRIES A DEGREE OF PRESTIGE AND RESPONSIBILITY. TO
BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS RANK A STUDENT MUST THEREFORE DISPLAY A DIGNIFIED AND MATURE ATTITUDE AND BEHAVE BOTH ON AND OFF THE FLOOR WITH INTEGRITY AND HONESTY, SPECIFICALLY WHEN IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHER TAEKWONDO PRACTISIONERS.

 

CANDIDATES SHOULD ALSO BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN DEVELOPING TAEKWONDO WITHIN ENGLAND OR INTERNATIONALLY.

 

THESIS



A TEN PAGE, 2000 WORD THESIS IS TO BE SUBMITTED FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE TAEKWONDO ENGLAND GRADING EXAMINERS ON ANY TAEKWONDO
RELATED SUBJECT.

 

AREA 1 - POOMSAE  

SIP JIN PLUS A MAXIMUM OF TWO FURTHER POOMSAE OF GRADING
EXAMINERS CHOICE FROM TAEGEUK O (5) JANG TO PYONG WON

 

AREA 2 - SPARRING  

 

ONE FOR ONE SPARRING     

       

PERFORMED ON THE SPOT WITHOUT CONTACT, EXIBITING VARIOUS KICKING AND PUNCKING TECHNIQUES SUITABLE FOR THE RANK BEING TESTED AND SHOULD
INCLUDE JUMPING AND KICKING PARTICULARLY IN RESPECT OF YOUNGER CANDIDATES.

 

IT SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE AN ELEMENT OF KICKING AS THE BODY IS SPINNING SUCH AS REVERSE TURN KICK AND BACK KICK IN ADDITION TO KICKING OFF THE
FRONT LEG AND REAR LEG, DISPLAYING GOOD TECHNIQUE AND FORM IN DELIVERY AND RECOVERY.

                                                         

FREE SPARRING   

                           

LIGHT CONTACT KICKING AND PUNCHING TECHNIQUES TO THE BODY AND LIGHT CONTACT CONTROLLED KICKING TECHNIQUES TO THE FACE. CANDIDATES SHOULD
ENDEVOUR TO DISPLAY MARTIAL SPIRIT, OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE TECHNIQUES WITH GOOD UNDERSTANDING AND USE OF FOOTWORK AND TIMING TO ACIEVE POSITIVE OUTCOMES WITH BALANCE, SPEED, ACCURACY AND CONCENTRATION.                                                                               
                                         

AREA 3 - ONE STEP   

                                                   

EXHIBIT VARIOUS BLOCKING, KICKING, STRIKING AND PUNCHING TECHNIQUES ALSO MAKING GOOD USE OF WRIST AND ARM LOCKS. TAKE DOWNS ARE DESIRABLE BUT NOT COMPULSORY.

 

EACH PAIR WILL BE INFORMED WHICH STUDENT WILL ATTACK FIRST WHILE FACING EACH OTHER IN READY STANCE.

 

THAT STUDENT WILL THEN KIAP AND WILL WAIT FOR THE DEFENDER TO KIAP BACK BEFORE PUNCHING TO THE FACE RIGHT FIST FIRST IN FRONT STANCE, FOLLOWED BY A LEFT FIST STRIKE.

 

THE ONLY KIAPS AFTER THE INITIAL 2 ARE WHEN THE DEFENDER KIAPS WHEN STRIKING, PUNCHING OR KICKING.

 

THE DEFENDER THEN BECOMES THE ATTACKER AND THE SEQUENCE IS REPEATED.

 

THE DEFENDER MUST USE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES ON EACH SIDE DURING A SEQUENCE.

 

WHERE THE DEFENDER ON OCCASSIONS WISHES TO DEAL WITH THE ATTACK FROM A FIGHTING STANCE BECAUSE A KICKING TECHNIQUE WILL BE USED INITIALLY, HE OR SHE SHOULD IMMEDIATELY MOVE INTO A FIGHTING STANCE INSTEAD OF A JOOMBI SEOGI AFTER HIS OR HER PARTNER HAS COMPLETED THEIR DEFENSIVE RESPONSES TO THIER ATTACKS. HOWEVER, WHERE THIS IS DONE, ANOTHER TECHNIQUE SHOULD ALSO BE USED IN FIGHTING STANCE ON THE OTHER SIDE.

 

AREA 4

 



SELF DEFENCE

 



THE OPPONENT DECIDES WHICH PART OF THE ARM ETC TO GRAB ON EACH OCCASION ALTHOUGH IT IS DESIRABLE TO SPOTANEOUSLY GRAB THE DEFENDER FROM THE LIST OF GRABS AS OUTLINED IN THE 3RD AND 4TH DAN SYLLABUS.

 

EACH PAIR WILL BE INFORMED WHICH STUDENT WILL BE TESTED FIRST. THEY WILL THEN WORK THROUGH ALL THEIR TECHNIQUES IN ONE SEQUENCE BEFORE THEIR PARTNER WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO START THEIRS.

 

CANDIDATES SHOULD REACT QUICKLY TO EACH GRAB AND DISPLAY AN EFFECTIVE RESPONSE WHICH WOULD BE EFFECTIVE IN A REAL SITUATION WHILE ENSURING
THE SAFETY OF THEIR PARTNER BY PERFORMING THE TECHNIQUES WITH APPROPRIATE CONTROL.

 

KNIFE DEFENCE

 



FREE STYLE. THRUST ONLY WITH CONTINUOUS ATTACKS. THE CANDIDATE MUST DEAL WITH EACH ATTACK EFFECTIVELY USING BLOCKS, STRIKES, KICKS, ARM OR WRIST LOCKS AND TAKE DOWNS. A RUBBER OR WOODEN KNIFE WILL BE USED AND AS EACH SITUATION IS DEALT WITH THE KNIFE IF STILL IN POSSESSION OF THE CANDIDATE SHOULD BE QUICKLY RETURNED TO THE ATTACKER.

 

AREA 5 – DESTRUCTION TECHNIQUES
