NORWICH WTF

 DAN GRADING SYLLABUS

OVERVIEW

NORWICH WTF IS AN INCLUSIVE GROUP WHICH AIMS TO BRING ALL TKD PRACTISIONERS INTO AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF TAEKWONDO PERFORMANCE CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH HELP, SUPPORT AND COOPERATION.

OUR AIM IS TO PRODUCE SOME OF THE BEST POOMSAE AND KYRUGI COMPETITORS LOCALLY, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

OUR DAN GRADE GRADING SYLLABUS MUST THEREFORE REFLECT OUR DESIRE TO SEE STANDARDS IMPROVE IN ENGLAND SO CANDIDATES SHOULD TRAIN HARD AND BE PREPARED TO DISPLAY THEIR SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN ALL DISCIPLINES OF OUR ART.

IT IS REALISED HOWEVER THAT ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WILL WISH TO COMPETE IN POOMSAE OR KYRUGI AND A STUDENTS DESIRE TO TRAIN AND HIS OR HER REASONS FOR ENGAGING IN TAEKWONDO PRACTISE VARY
CONSIDERABLY.

TAEKWONDO IS FOR EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF AGE, GENDER OR RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL BELIEFS AND FURTHERMORE PHYSICAL DISABILITIES SHOULD NOT
HINDER A PERSONS INVOLVEMENT IN TAEKWONDO OR IN THE PROMOTION OF BELT
ADVANCEMENT.

IN PARTICULAR, AGE, PERMINENT INJURY OR A DISABILTY WILL ALWAYS BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT DURING ANY TKD ENGLAND DAN GRADING.

TAKING THIS INTO ACCOUNT, THE STANDARD REQUIRED TO PASS ANY DISCIPLINE DURING A DAN PROMOTION TEST WILL INCREASE DEPENDANT UPON THE DAN
BEING APPLIED FOR. FOR EXAMPLE, A HIGHER TECHNICAL STANDARD WILL BE REQUIRED IN ALL DISCIPLINES FOR CANDIDATES TAKING 2ND DAN THAN IF TAKING 1STDAN AND SO ON UP TO 7TH DAN.

AS A 4TH DAN RANK ENABLES AN INSTRUCTOR TO ACT AS A GRADING EXAMINER FOR KUP GRADES, A HIGH LEVEL OF TECHNICAL ABILITY IN ALL AREAS WILL BE REQUIRED WHICH AGAIN WILL INCREASE IN COMPETANCE UP TO 7TH
DAN.

ALL CANDIDATES WILL BE MARKED IN 5 AREAS DURING A PROMOTION TEST. SOME OF THESE AREAS WILL INCLUDE MORE THAN ONE DISCIPLINE DEPENDING ON
THE RANK BEING APPLIED FOR.

AS OUR DESIRE IS TO RAISE THE STANDARD IN ALL AREAS WHILE IN PARTICULAR PRODUCING EXCELLENCE IN POOMSAE AND KYRUGI COMPETITORS, OUR DAN
GRADE SYLLABUS WILL REFLECT THIS IS IT’S MARKING SYSTEM AND TO GIVE CLARITY TO A CANDIDATE THE FOLLOWING MARKING SYSTEM WILL BE USED.

A MINIMUM OF 3 AND MAXIMUM OF 5 GRADING EXAMINERS WILL MARK
THE CANDIDATES AND WILL SIMPLY GIVE A PASS OR FAIL IN EACH OF THE 5 AREAS.

TO PASS AN AREA A CANDIDATE MUST RECEIVE A MAJORITY PASS FROM THE PANEL.

THE TESTED AREAS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. POOMSAE
  2. NON CONTACT ONE FOR ONE KICKING AND
PUNCHING/LIGHT CONTROLLED CONTACT FREE SPARRING (KYRUGI)
  3. ONE STEP
  4. SELF DEFENCE/KNIFE DEFENCE/ANY ADDITIONAL
DISCIPLINE AS SET OUT IN THE SPECIFIC SYLLABUS FOR THE DAN APPLIED FOR.
  5. DESTRUCTION

TO RECEIVE AN OVERALL PASS, CANDIDATES MUST RECEIVE A PASS
IN AREAS 1 AND 2 AND MUST THEN RECEIVE A PASS IN AT LEAST ONE AREA FROM AREAS 3, 4 AND 5.

THE EXCEPTION TO THIS IS THAT CANDIDATES TESTING FOR 6TH AND 7TH DAN RANKS WILL NOT BE TESTED IN AREA 2.

THESE CANDIDATES WILL RECEIVE AN OVERALL PASS PROVIDED THEY RECEIVE A PASS IN POOMSAE AND IN TWO OTHER AREAS FROM AREAS 3, 4 OR 5.

ALL CANDIDATES MUST BE RECOMMENDED FOR THE PROMOTION TEST AND HAVE BEEN IN CONTINOUS TRAINING WITH OR UNDER A STUDENT/INSTRUCTOR OF AT
LEAST A RANK SENIOR IN GRADE.

CANDIDATES APPLYING FOR 1ST TO 3RD DAN/POOM MUST BE RECOMMENDED BY A KUKKIWON CERTIFIED 4TH DAN OR ABOVE OR IT’S EQIVALENT (IE A 4TH OR 5TH DAN THAT WAS GRADED TO THAT RANK BY A KUKKIWON CERTFIED 6TH DAN) WHO BY
RECOMMENDING THE CANDIDATE CERTIFIES THE CANDIDATE HAS BEEN IN CONTINOUS TRAINING SINCE THEIR LAST PROMOTION AND HAS IN THIER OPINION REACHED THE REQUIRED STANDARD TO PASS.

CANDIATES APPLYING FOR RANKS OF 5TH TO 7TH DAN MUST BE SIMILARLY RECOMMENDED BY A KUKKIWON CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR AT LEAST ONE RANK AHEAD OF THE RANK BEING APPLIED FOR.

THE APPLICANT MUST HAVE ALSO ATTENDED AT LEAST ONE NORWICH WTF GRADING SEMINAR SINCE THEIR LAST GRADING OR HAVE ATTENDED BOTH A POOMSAE AND A KYRUGI SEMINAR.

HOWEVER, STUDENTS WHO ARE REGISTERED AND ARE REGULARLY TRAINING AT A CLUB RUN AND INSTRUCTED BY A KUKKIWON CERTIFIED 6TH DAN OR ABOVE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND ANY SUCH SEMINARS PROVIDED THAT
SENIOR INSTRUCTOR RECOMMENDS THE CANDIDATE AND GIVES WRITTEN CONFIRMATION OF THE STUDENT TRAINING REGULARLY AT HIS OR HER CLUB.

HOWEVER, IT WOULD STILL BE DESIRABLE FOR ANY APPLICANT TO ATTEND A GRADING SEMINAR TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE GRADING REQUIREMENTS IN
RESPECT OF THE CURRENT STANDARD THE GRADING EXAMINERS WILL BE LOOKING FOR THE CANDIDATE TO ACHIEVE.

FULL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IS COMPULSORY FOR ALL DISCIPLINES EXCEPT POOMSAE AND DESTRUCTION.
